Worked as an NGO leader in the fields of human rights, homelessness and disadvantaged children. In 1995 became the first CEO of the UK Cleft Lip and Palate Association and was a key member of the UK government committee which oversaw the development in the UK of centres of excellence. In 2007 he co-founded the European Cleft Organisation working with and providing training for patient groups and health professionals across Europe (with a focus on the Eastern Europe). He chaired a technical committee of the Committee for European Standardisation (CEN) developing agreed guidelines on early cleft care, published in 2015.
